Here is the latest headline from the Career Technical Education Division-- “Equipment and Software Upgrades bring the Auto Body, Welding and Drafting Technology Programs to current industry standards” :

  • Auto Body program has upgraded its frame measuring equipment.

  • Welding program will be upgrading to a six station inverter system capable of stick, DC TIG, MIG, Pulsed MIG, flux-cored and arc gouging.

  • Drafting program will be upgrading their AutoCAD software to include AutoCAD 2006 with Architectural Desktop. The Drafting program presently offers 3D Modeling Design classes using SolidWorks software.

Kudos to the Cosmetology and Photography Programs for their one-day simulated professional photo shoot held in the Theatre on December 5, 2005. Professors Ron Zak and Belinda Silva, Cosmetology Lab Techs Renza Nassab and Jerry Lowe, helped to direct and assist students through the actual sequence of events and stresses that occur during a professional shoot. The idea was the brainstorm of Ron Zak and Renza Nassab. Ms. Nassab, a former model, discussed the idea with Mr. Zak and the Cosmetology instructional group and the event evolved. Students from the day and evening Cosmetology Program, as well as Photography Program students and Theatre staff prepared the backdrops, applied the makeup and hair styles for the student models resulting in a very successful event for all involved.

For your personal well being, the Cosmetology Program offers services in the clinic starting on January 30, 2006. Day and evening appointments are available by calling 864-7180.

Solano College Cosmetology Department Adds Evening Program
August 15, 2005
Getting your hair cut and styled, having a manicure and pedicure or enjoying a relaxing facial are becoming increasingly popular. In order to meet the increased demand for cosmetologists, Solano College is now offering an evening program for up to 25 students starting this
Fall.

Students can earn a certificate in cosmetology upon completion of four semesters of training in hair, skin and nail care. Both the day and evening program start August 22nd, with classes on Monday through Friday. Belinda Silva will be instructing the program from 3 – 10:30 pm.

“We are really excited to meet the needs of our community by offering an evening program,” stated Ms. Silva.

Orientation for both day and evening programs will be held at 10 a.m. on August 18th in building 1600. With additional units of general education, students can earn an Associate in Science.

“This program will allow more change of career flexibility for students who wish to enter the cosmetology profession and aren’t able to attend day classes,” stated Cheryl McDonald, Lead Instructor.

The daytime program is available Monday through Friday from 8 am – 3:30 pm. For more information about both program options, contact the counseling department at 707-864-7101.

The public can receive hair, nail and skin care treatment from students only under the supervision of the instructor, Mary Ann Haley, starting August 29th. Call 707-864-7180 to schedule an appointment.
