Bookstore Faculty Page Higher Education Act of 2008 Effective July 1, 2010, federal law requires certain specific actions regarding course materials by institutions of higher education that receive federal funds. The primary requirement of note is that textbook information be published when registration for a term begins, whenever possible. Faculty are required to advise the Bookstore of all required and recommended items that students must purchase (items available free are excluded). The Act also requires certain things from publishers, including “unbundling” and separate availability of supplemental items, in most cases.
