Campus InformationSolano Community College has been a tradition in Solano County since 1945 when Vallejo Junior College began as part of the Vallejo Unified School District. In 1967, the Solano Community College District became a countywide institution serving all of Solano and part of Yolo county. The 192-acre Fairfield campus, centrally located just off Interstate 80, was completed in 1971 and opened with 5,000 students. Since then, the College has added the Vallejo Center, the Vacaville Center, and offers classes at the Travis Air Force Base University Center.
Solano College is part of California's community college system of 113 campuses in 72 districts across the state. The college's service area encompasses the communities of Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Suisun, Vacaville, Vallejo and Winters, as well as Travis Air Force Base. Many graduates of the area's high schools take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by Solano Community College District and continue to serve the community as nurses, EMTs, fire fighters, welders, and biologists, to name just a few.
Solano's classes are offered in two 17.5 week semesters (Spring and Fall), plus Summer sessions. Flexible scheduling, designed for students' convenience, includes day, evening and Saturday, and on ground and online classes. Short-term classes, open-entry/open-exit formats, and special interest workshops and seminars provide full-time students, employers, and those committed to life-long learning with many options.
With the current student population of 10,000 divided among the three campuses, Solano College offers educational and career opportunities for residents throughout the county. Beginning in Fall 2017, Solano College will be one of fifteen California community colleges to offer a Baccalaureate degree (Biotechnology). The college offers over 80 degrees and more than 50 certificates in addition to transfer degrees to the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC) systems.
