Frequently Asked Questions

Will the VA pay for my books?

No, unless you are approved under the Chapter 31 program.

Do I have to take P.E. courses even though I was in the military?

Yes. The only exception to this is if you have a transcript from the Community College of the Air Force (or Army , Navy) which shows P.E. college credit.

Can I receive my Chapter 30 benefits for 36 months (full time) and then sign up for the reserves and get another 36 months?

No. You can receive a maximum of 48 months of full-time benefits, so, in this case, you would receive 36 months of Chapter 30 and 12 months of Chapter 1606. (Your entitlement is deducted at the rate you are attending; i.e.,  l/2 month is deducted if you are receiving l/2x benefits).

If I drop a class, do I have to pay the money back?

No. You are eligible for payment up to the day you drop. However, any money received for a course after it is dropped will be considered an overpayment.

Can I repeat a course?

Only if you received an “F” grade or require a higher grade for your degree or transfer.
