Program Description
The program consists of sixteen hundred (1600) hours of
intensive training and study designed to prepare the student to take the
California State Board of Cosmetology examination for licensure.
Units include theory and practice in fundamental skills in all phases of
beauty culture. Assignment of units is based on hours in
attendance. See the Course Description portion of the Catalog for
prerequisite requirements for admission to the program.
Transfer students will be accepted on a space-available
basis providing they have not achieved more than 500 certified hours of
training.

Licensed graduates may be employed as hair dressers,
salon managers or owners, hair coloring specialists, hair stylists,
make-up artists, facial specialists, manicurists, nail technicians, wig
stylists, manufacturers’ field representatives, demonstrators and
lecturers, receptionists, laboratory technicians and cosmetic buyers.
Solano College graduates are in demand for immediate employment.
Cost
Students enrolling in the Cosmetology Program are
required to purchase an equipment kit, materials card and start-up
materials from the SCC Bookstore. The start-up costs exceed $900 and must
be purchased by the second meeting of the class. Registration fees are

These are generally non-transferable vocational courses, but may
transfer to individual four-year colleges offering majors in the
area. See the Solano College Catalog for details on each
course. It is important that students see a counselor regarding the
appropriate catalog of record.
First-time students to the Cosmetology Program will be
required to attend an orientation meeting and purchase a materials card at
registration in addition to the registration fees. The cost of the
materials card and start-up materials exceeds $900. For more

After completing Cosmetology 171, 172, 173,
174, and 400 hours of training, you will qualify for the license
examination given by the State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology.
If you do not meet the minimum number of hours you must enroll in
Cosmetology 175 to accrue hours to apply for the licensing exam.
Students enrolling in Cosmetology 171, 172, 173, and
174, are not eligible for enrollment in Cosmetology 117, and students
enrolled in Cosmetology 117 are not eligible to enroll in Cosmetology 171,
172, 173, and 174.
