Program Description
This program provides the student with sufficient
academic and practical experience for entrance into the job market as a
graphic artist, or for study towards the B.A. in college or professional
school.
Additional Program Information
Completion of the course of study for the Associate in Arts in
Commercial Art at Solano Community College provides the diligent student
with sufficient academic and practical experience for entrance into the
job market as a graphic artist, or for study towards the B. A. in a
college or professional school. It is suggested that all general
education, required art courses, and recommended electives as described in
the general catalog be completed for an optimal educational
background. Both full and part-time study options are available.
Opportunities
In addition to attaining knowledge and practical
experience, it should be the objective of the prospective artist to
accumulate representative work for a portfolio which will serve to
demonstrate competency in a variety of art functions, and to emphasize
specific art strengths and preferences. Since involvement in art is
a lifetime study, a portfolio is changed from time to time to reflect
current accomplishments and expertise. The Solano College student’s
portfolio will reflect both the quality and quantity of effort put forth
during study for the A. A. degree, and portfolio contents will naturally
vary between individuals. Emphasis throughout the courses of study
is placed upon creativity, productivity and craftsmanship, with attention
to the requirements of producing art that will satisfy market requirements
while providing growth and expression for the artist.
It is in the latter context that the real
meaning of art education manifests itself, for while art as a profession
is rewarding, self-fulfillment is the real and lasting value. One
may always look forward to new challenges and opportunities as the life of
the artist is one of change and thus creates its own excitement.
There exists a perpetual market for creative products, and for the
talented and diligent student the job potential is promising.
