Program Description
This is an interdisciplinary program
designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year college.
Some course descriptions may be found below while others may be found
under the appropriate disciplines.
Opportunities
Completion of the major will give you a
well-rounded background for a career in family and consumer
sciences. Completion of the major plus appropriate related electives
may prepare you for entry level jobs as nutrition aide, food or appliance
demonstrator, interior decoration consultant and salesperson, dressmaker,
school lunchroom worker and other related occupation.
Transfer Options
Many students who complete the Home
Economics major transfer to four-year colleges and universities to
continue their education in general home economics or one of the related
specialized fields such as dietetics, child development, home economics
education, clothing and textiles or interior design. Students
intending to transfer should plan their programs carefully with the aid of
the counseling department, as the lower division requirements and course
transferability vary from one institution to another. Faculty
members in the Home Economics department will be glad to answer questions
by telephone or in person during the school year.
