Keeping Up to Date in the Information Age
Changes in the computer field occur at an unprecedented
rate. All indications are that this rate of growth and change will
escalate, with computer related jobs continuing to be in high demand. The
CIS Department is ready to help you stay abreast of the changes.
Our CIS program offers options for those who wish to
become proficient in a particular computer area, and we offer courses that
are integral to many other programs and disciplines as well. Emphasis is
on application of basic information systems concepts, critical thinking
skills, and an awareness of the effect of computers on all areas of
society.
The curriculum is designed to prepare you for employment
in one of three areas: 1) Computer Programming; 2) Microcomputer
Applications; or 3) Network Administration. The Associate in Science
Degree can be earned with completion of 60 units, including one of the
30-33-unit options, general education requirements, and electives. A
certificate can be earned with completion of one of the 30-33-unit option
areas. Students who choose option 3 may become certified as Network
Administrators or Network Engineers through industry-certified exams at
approved testing centers.
