About the Company

Managing Director David Leonard and Artistic Director George Maguire founded SCT in 1988. Both are committed theatre professionals who discovered the seeds of a viable semi-professional company in the rolling hills of Solano County, and have devoted their professional careers to fostering those seeds.

From an audience base of only a few hundred, SCT has doubled in size many times over in a few short years. By taking advantage of the synergy created by combining professional and student talent together, SCT has become the most award-winning theatre in Northern California. SCT has received seven Los Angeles Drama-Logue awards, over thirty Elly awards and in excess of forty Arty Awards. Today, tens of thousands of patrons pass through the lobby doors into SCT's magical theatrical world.

SCT performs primarily in a 374 space located on Solano Community College's main campus. This proscenium theatre can be configured to present intimate productions or major musicals. The full flyhouse theatre comes complete with a scene shop, property shop, costume shop, and dressing areas. SCT also manages and performs in an additional multi-million dollar facility on the waterfront in Old Town Suisun. The new facility has a 175-seat intimate theatre that houses a semiprofessional company produced by SCT. As well, the new facility has an additional scene shop, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, and three small performance spaces (70 - 90 seats each, depending upon configuration) dedicated to producing adventuresome and student works.

SCT presents a variety of works each year from September through May. Traditionally, SCT produces two to three musicals, two to three plays, and a host of professional work each season. These works range from easily accessible popular works, to cutting edge modern American work. All students at SCT are eligible for casting in productions, and play nearly all the major leads in SCT shows.

SCT hires some of the best theatre artists in the country to work alongside its students. Professional actors, designers, and other production staff come and go throughout the year enriching SCT's productions, staff, and students. From Broadway to California, SCT works to bring the best to its students and patrons.
