American Studies
We offer two interdisciplinary studies courses in American civilization, combining
history, culture, philosophy and literature. Satisfies an Ethnic Studies requirement.
English
Students may pursue a major in English by completing units in both composition and
literature. In the literature area, we offer survey, genre, ethnic, thematic, and figure
courses. The English department also teaches creative writing and technical writing.
Reading
The reading program offers both remedial and college-level instruction in both classroom
and laboratory situations.
Sign Language
We offer two classes of American Sign Language (ASL) for parents and teachers of the deaf and hearing impaired designed to
develop a mastery of sign language.
English As A Second Language
Students may take ESL classes in reading, speaking, listening, and writing on several
levels of difficulty to improve English language skills.
Foreign Language
The Foreign Language Department offers full programs in Spanish, French, and German and
classes in Italian, Latin, and Portuguese.
History
Students may major in history with emphases in American History, World History, or a
variety of ethnic histories.
Humanities
Students may take three interdisciplinary courses to explore what it means to be human,
humans as creators, and humans in a multicultural society.
Journalism
Students can satisfy the lower division requirements and major in newspaper journalism in
this department.
Philosophy
This discipline offers courses in critical thinking, logic, ethics, and world religions.
Political Science
Students may major in political science with courses in American government, comparative
governments, international politics, constitutional rights, and law and society.
