The APA (American Psychological Association) editorial style is a set of rules and guidelines for the layout and presentation of your paper and references. This encompasses "everything" in your paper: from punctuation to your paper's layout to your references. The APA Publication Manual contains complete directions on this editorial style. Currently in it's 6th edition, the APA publication manual is available at the library's reference desk. Older versions (still usable!) are located in the stacks [BF76.7 .P83].
Formatting Your Paper
APA style requires that your paper be sectioned off into distinct parts:
To cite your sources using APA, focus on linking these TWO things:
1
Your Reference list
The page, at the end of your paper, that lists all your sources. Each source's citation listed must link up to at least one parenthetical citation in the text of your paper.
2
Your parenthetical citations
In the text of your paper, each time you cite a source, that parenthetical citation must match up to a full citation on your Reference List at the end of your paper.
