Most of the SCC Library databases are available from off-campus but require your library card number or a username/password to access them.

The Solano/Napa Partners (SNAP) library card works with many of these databases- however, there are some noted below that require a Solano College library card.

Instructions:

1. Find the database you would like to access.
2. Look under the database's name (and link): do you need a library card number? Do you specifically need a Solano College library card number? Or do you need a username/password?
3. If you need a username/password, please contact a Reference Librarian for assistance.

Resources are for Solano College students. These resources are available off-campus with your SCC library card, except where noted.

Access.Science Use your library card barcode	The online Encyclopedia of Science & Technology. Includes over 8,500 online articles, images and illustrations, scientist biographies, and scientific definitions.
ARTSTOR On-campus access only.	A "digital library of nearly one million images in the areas of art, architecture, the humanities, and social sciences." (What is ARTstor?)
Auto Repair Reference Center (EBSCO.host) Use your library card barcode	A database for automotive repair and maintenance. Repair topics include repair procedures, service bulletins and recalls, wiring diagrams, labor, specifications, and maintenance intervals.
top CINAHL Plus Use your SCC library card barcode. (Other SNAP partner library cards will not work.)	Provides indexing for 3,265 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health, with indexing back to 1937. CINAHL Plus also contains searchable cited references for more than 1,230 journals. Full text material includes nearly 80 journals plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials.
Classical Music Library In-library use only.	Includes thousands of classical recordings, searchable by composer/instrument/etcetera. Listen to recordings from the collections of chamber, folk, instrumental, opera and operetta, orchestral, sacred, stage and screen, and vocal and choral music. Only three SCC users may use the database at once.
College Source Online On-campus only.	Contains over 15,000 college catalogs
Country Watch On-campus only.	Geographic, cultural, and statistical information about nations of the world.
CQ Electronic Library Email or contact a Reference Librarian for the off-campus username/password.	Full-text access to CQ Researcher (current issues), CQ Weekly (recent activity in Congress), CQ Encyclopedia of American Government and CQ Supreme Court.
CRC handbook of Chemistry & Physics You need to be on-campus or at home to use this resource. It may not work from inside other libraries.	The 86th edition of this resource; contains interactive charts and tables.

Home Improvement Reference Center (EBSCO.host) Use your library card barcode	A full text database focusing on home improvement and home repair, including outdoor projects, electrical projects, remodeling projects, plumbing projects, wood projects, decorating projects and maintenance.
JSTOR On-campus access only.	JSTOR is a full-text database that "includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences." (About JSTOR)
top Learning Express Library Use your library card barcode	LearningExpress Library provides a completely interactive online learning platform of practice tests and tutorial course series designed to help SCC students succeed on the academic or licensing tests they must pass. You will need to establish your own account once you have logged into Learning Express. Includes GED, ACT, Civil Service, Military, TOEFL, and more.
Lexis-Nexis On-campus access only.	Full text access to the San Francisco Chronicle, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and New York Times from 1980 to present. Also: company news and financial data, Federal and state laws, court cases, medical information, and major reference sources including the Roper Polls.
Literary Reference Center Use your library card barcode	A full text database covering thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes. Includes plot summaries, synopses and work overviews, book reviews, literary criticism, author biographies and interviews, and full text access to poems, short stories, classic texts and much more.
top MedLine Plus	National Library of Medicine's database of references to more than 16 million articles published in 4,800 biomedical journals. Includes medical encyclopedia, dictionary and tutorials.
The Merck Index	An encyclopedia that contains more than 10,000 monographs describing significant chemicals, drugs, and biological substances.
Mitchell's On.Demand On-campus access only.	Automotive repair, diagnostic data, vehicle maintenance, labor estimating and service manuals.
MLA International Bibliography (EBSCOhost) Use your SCC library card barcode. (Other SNAP partner library cards will not work.)	"Detailed bibliography of journal articles, books and dissertations. Produced by the Modern Language Association, the electronic version of the bibliography dates back to the 1920s and contains over 1.8 million citations from more than 4,400 journals & series and 1,000 book publishers. The indexed materials coverage is international and includes almost 60 titles from J-STOR's language and literature collection as well as links to full text."
Net.Library Create a free account in the library for off-campus use.	Provides access to over 2,300 electronic books and electronic audio books.

Professional Development Collection Use your library card barcode	A highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators, professional librarians and education researchers. Includes full text for Chronicle of Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Journal of Education, Journal of Higher Education, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Theory Into Practice, and nearly 520 high quality education journals.
Pro.Quest You must use a Solano College Library card to access ProQuest databases. SCC Library has purchased additional ProQuest databases (see list at right) that are not available using library cards from other SNAP libraries. Reference USA	This is a good tool to use to see what businesses are in your area, and get information on them.
top Safari Tech Books In-library use only.	Full-text library for programmers and IT professionals.
Serials Solutions	Lists all electronic full-text periodical titles subscribed to by the SCC library. Periodical titles hyperlink to the databases in which they are full-text.
Small Engine Repair Reference Center (EBSCO.host) Use your library card barcode	A full text database derived from the full set of small engine repair manuals from Clymer. Clymer repair manuals provide step-by-step procedures based upon the complete disassembly of the machine.
Smithsonian Global Sound In-library use only.	A virtual encyclopedia of more than 35,000 internet-accessible recordings of American folk, American Indian, bluegrass, blues, children's, classical, jazz, old time country, spoken word and world music. Only three SCC users may use the database at once.
top (Gale) Virtual Reference Library You must use a Solano College Library card to access the Gale Virtual Reference Library.	"A database of encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research. These reference materials once were accessible only in the library, but now you can access them online from the library or remotely 24/7." (Gale, 2008)
