THE PROJECT
Solano Community College is establishing a new Vallejo Campus on a 10-acre greenfield site in Vallejo as part of its ongoing mission to serve its growing community. The first phase of the campus includes 33,000 assignable square feet (approximately 44,000 gross square feet) of classrooms, science laboratories, computer laboratories, a learning laboratory, an art classroom, an auditorium, a multi-use room serving the Physical Education, Dance and Theatre programs, parking and outdoor spaces.

This project is being developed as a possible prototype to be applied to other new SCC campuses as well as future buildings on this campus. The total construction cost for the Vallejo Center is projected to be $11.6 million. In recognition of his 32 years of service to Solano College, the SCC Governing has voted to name the administration building after former Trustee Bill Thurston.

“Bill prized education and was a great asset on the Governing Board. He was instrumental in the passage of Measure G, which will, in part, fund the new Vallejo Center. The Governing Board is pleased to name the administration building at the new Vallejo Center in Trustee Thurston’s memory,” stated Jim Claffey, SCC Governing President.

Measure G will infuse $124.5 million into the Solano Community College system through 2009 for new college facilities plus upgrades to the existing campus infrastructure. The new Vallejo and Vacaville facilities will be approximately 47,000 square feet each with modern classrooms and computer labs to meet the educational needs of the expanding Solano County population.

The main campus of Solano College in Fairfield will have a new student learning center, an extensively remodeled resources building which will house the library and classrooms, and upgrade the campus infrastructure with repairs to electrical transformers, plumbing, and the aging air conditioning and heating systems.
