Health Advisories – 2009 H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)
The Solano Community College District is taking steps to protect the health and welfare of our campus community, including faculty, staff, and students. This information is provided to you as a resource, and should not be used to replace medical advice or care. Please return to this page for regular updates and links to online resources.

2009 H1N1 (Swine Flu) flu is expected to cause infections about 8 weeks after the first day of classes (Aug. 19-Oct. 14). At that time a H1N1 vaccination should be available. The vaccine for seasonal flu should be available a few weeks earlier than the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine.

It is recommended that everyone take precautions to remain healthy and prevent the spread of 2009 H1N1 flu as well as seasonal flu.
  • Stay informed – this website will be updated regularly as information becomes available.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • Take everyday actions to stay healthy.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If you do not have a tissue – cough or sneeze into your sleeve.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Get the seasonal flu vaccine (available in late September).
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Viruses spread that way.
  • Stay at home if you get sick. (Symptoms include: cough, sore throat, fever of 100 degrees F or over, body aches, nausea) Stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them until at least 24hours after you feel better and your fever is gone (without taking fever-reducing medication).
The Solano Community College Student Health Center is a resource for information on 2009 H1N1 flu, including locations of vaccine, medical care, and updates. The Health Center, located in Room 1409, Building 1400-Solano Student Union, is open Monday-Thursday 8 am – 7 pm and Friday 8:30am – 3pm. Phone: (707) 864-7163
