2005 Hall of Fame Inductees

Elaine Bettencourt – Softball ‘68-‘70

Elaine played volleyball, basketball and softball for SCC. In her 1st season of softball she was Most Inspirational, had the most stolen bases, and was honorable mention at the Delta and Sacramento CC tournaments. In her 2nd season, she was MVP; had the most stolen bases; the 3rd highest batting average; and, was honorable mention at the Delta and San Mateo tournaments. In 1970 she was named the Outstanding Solano College Athlete.


Ron Beverly – Football Coach ‘88-‘99

Ron won five conference championships and had six bowl appearances during his time at Solano. He was named BVC Coach of the Year five times and was State Coach of the Year for 1999. He had more wins than any other SCC football coach. His ‘89 team was ranked 25th in the nation, and he had ten players selected to the All-State team. He had two players named All-American, sent over 20 players to D-I and 30 to D-II schools, and saw two go on to play professional football. Ten of his former players are currently coaches.


Tom Joyce – Baseball ‘66-‘68

Tom was an All-Coast shortstop in ‘67 and ‘68 and was MVP for SCC for two seasons. He was drafted by the LA Dodgers after the 1968 season but chose to go to SFSU where he was All-Far Western Conference in 1969. He signed with the Kansas City Royals after the ‘69 season and played AA and AAA ball until his ‘74 retirement. He is currently a salesperson for Mother’s Cookies.


Jeff McCormick – Swimming ‘77-‘78

Jeff competed in the 1978 swim season at Solano before transferring to UCSB. He was an All-American in the 100 and 200 yard backstroke. He was also conference champ in the 200 backstroke and the 200 freestyle. He led Solano to the ‘78 conference championship.


Eli Nolan – Basketball ‘97-‘99

Eli was disciplined in his approach to basketball and college. His sophomore year he was named All-Conference and also made the All-Academic Team in the Bay Valley Conference. He was the leading scorer at 21.7 ppg (the highest average since 1990) and 3rd in rebounding at 9.5 rpg. He went on to a successful career at University of the Pacific. While attending Solano College he made the Dean’s Honor’s list with 3.5 gpa.


Larry Thompson – Football ‘89-‘91

Larry was a receiver and punt/kickoff returner for two seasons. He led Solano to two consecutive bowl appearances and scored 15 TD’s. He was All-BVC for two years and had over 1,000 yards in receiving. He had 8 games of over 100 yards of receiving and had 4 rushing touchdowns, 2 punt returns for touchdowns, and 2 kickoff returns for touchdowns. He went from Solano to the CFL where he had a long career.


Ed Serpas – Football ‘54-‘56

Ed was MVP and co-captain of the ‘54 team. He was All-Conference, All-State, and All-American in 1954. He also played two years of baseball at SCC. After graduating from Solano, he transferred to Utah State University where he played two years. After a stint in the Marines he began teaching locally at Armijo and Vanden. He coached and taught at Vanden from 1964 until his retirement in 1997.


Leah Whatley – Basketball ‘98-‘00

Leah was First-Team All-State in 2000 in addition to making the All-Conference team. She is in the top-8 for SCC in single season scoring. She transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where she led the team to a D-II national championship.
