Solano College Softball Receives Academic Honors |
|
Getting a national ranking for outstanding academics isn’t new for Solano Community College’s softball program. For the last four years Coach Pearson-Bloom has had teams ranked in the top 25 in the country by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association in team GPA. The 2004-2005 Solano Softball team is ranked number 20 nationally as an NFCA Academic Scholar Athlete Team in the junior college category with a team GPA of 2.940. As you might expect national recognition is usually preceded by state and local honors as well. The Falcons finished their season as number two in the state of California for team GPA and, also for the fourth consecutive year, on top of the Bay Valley Conference. As you might also expect, getting these honors are preceded by lots of hard work – not necessarily hard work at the field. “Across the board academic success is the first priority for Solano student-athletes. We could have an athlete that is world class, a Division I lock based on talent and natural ability; but if that student-athlete hasn’t taken care of business in the classroom, all that ability and talent won’t get them to the next level,” said Coach Pearson-Bloom. “Our commitment to academic excellence, as well as athletic success, is what enables our players to receive 4-years scholarships, and is the major reason why student-athletes are choosing Solano.” Terri Pearson-Bloom |
