SUCCESS Consortium - Conferences
Cash 4 College This event is intended to promote knowledge that financial assistance is available for college and for those attending college in California, and to learn more about the Cal-Grants assistance program. It is a FREE workshop offering hands-on assistance to students, parents and guardians in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and completion of the Cal-Grant GPA Verification forms. Both forms are necessary to receive Cal-Grants and other forms of college financial aid. Financial aid representatives from the SUCCESS Consortium membership answer questions and lead attendees line-by-line through the application process. Come prepared to actually complete the necessary financial aid forms. College Making It Happen This is a free conference designed for parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, youth group leaders and anyone else striving to make a difference in the life of 4th through 9th grade students. Information is provided in a panel format and some workshops regarding what is needed to prepare a student for college and is based on the premise that the earlier you begin to prepare your student, the better. The agenda includes information on how to help your child prepare for college, how to pay for college and how best to achieve academic success. Coursework and testing requirements are explained. The workshop is provided simultaneously in English and Spanish and is usually held at Solano Community College on a Saturday. The forum is question and answer friendly. This workshop is free and open to the public. The event is co-sponsored by the Continental of Omega Boys and Girls Club and held at their facility in Vallejo. It is a three hour event offered on a week night during the Spring. College Financial Aid Representatives conduct the workshop. Representatives are from the California University and State University system, the California Independent Colleges Association and the California Community College system. In addition to the college financial aid representatives, usually a financial planner sits on the panel as well. The topics discussed are: Federal Student Loans, Cal-Grants, Federal Pell Grants, Community College Transfer Entitlement Grants, Work Study Programs, Budgeting Tips, Scholarships, Credit Cards and Fee Waivers. The conference is designed for Eleventh (11th) graders, their parents/guardians and those seeking to finance a college education.
