SCC Veteran Resource Center

SCC Veterans Resource Center

Solano Community College has had a standalone Veterans Resource Center since the 1970's. The Veterans Resource Center, also known as the VRC, serves 1200 Veterans, Reservists, Active-duty, and Veteran Dependents. The program offers a step-by-step assistance to students that involves everything from applying to the college to contacting the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Students can find resources for many veteran related needs at the VRC. The philosophy is a one-stop shop for all related needs. The VRC has partnerships with SCC Student Veteran Organization, SCC Disabled Students Program, Travis AFB Airman and Family Reediness Center, Solano County Veteran Office, VA Mental Health, Sacramento Vet Center, Community Action North Bay, Military Officers Association of America, Employment Development Department, and the Workforce Investment Board, just to name a few.
Many Veterans have special needs that are not widely known. The VRC has made an effort to address those needs through having designated SCC Veteran Counselors, educating faculty and staff, employing Student Veterans at the VRC to mentor incoming and current students, monthly Veteran Seminars that provide tools for Veterans to be successful in school and home, Veteran Resources Events, on campus readjustment counseling done by Sacramento Vet Center, VA Work-study job placement within Solano County, and on campus VA claims processing done by Solano County Veteran Office.
