Tutoring Allowance

Chapter 30   Montgomery GI Bill

Eligibility
  • For service on or after 6-30-85
  • Must have contributed 1,200 ($100 per month for 12 months)
  • Must have completed initial obligation period of active duty
  • Must have HONORABLE DISCHARGE
Entitlement
  • Up to 36 months of full-time benefits
Delimiting Date
  • 10 years after discharge
Buy-Up (available since May 1, 2001)
  • Increased benefits through "buy-up" provision
  • Extra $600 contribution results in $5,400 in additional GI Bill benefits
Benefit Includes:
Monthly stipend while attending course based on number of units enrolled that Veteran is to use for all school and living expenses.

Kickers are paid monthly
Buy-up is paid monthly

Chapter 31

Eligibility
  • Received, or will receive, a discharge under other than dishonorable conditions.
  • Incurred or aggravated a service-connected disability, which entitles him or her to VA disability compensation.
  • Is in need of vocational rehabilitation because his or her disability creates an employment handicap.
Entitlement
  • Vocational rehabilitation may be provided for up to 48 months.
Delimiting Date
  • An eligible veteran generally has 12 years from the date he or she is notified of entitlement.
Voc Rehab also pays for
  • Monthly Stipend - Effective August 1, 2011 those eligible for both Chapter 31 & Chapter 33 benefits may choose the Chapter 33 monthly housing allowance instead of the Chapter 31 subsistence allowance.

Chapter 33   Post 9/11 for Veteran

General Eligibility
  • Individuals who served on active duty after 09/10/01 will be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill if the individual, or
  • Served for an aggregate period of at least 90 days, or
  • Served at least 30 continuous days and received a disability discharge
  • Must have Honorable Discharge
ARG Qualifying Information effective October 1, 2011
  • Full time service in the National Guard for the purpose of organizing, administering, recruiting, instructing or training
  • Activations in support of a national emergency under section 502 (f) of title 32
Title 32 Service that does NOT count as qualifying time:
  • Title 32 ADOS/ADSW (other than section 502(f): Operation Noble Eagle time listed above)
  • Title 32 State Counter Drug
Delimiting Date
  • 15 years from date of last discharge or released from active duty of at least 90 continuous days
Entitlement:
  • Individuals will generally receive 36 months of full-time benefits. However, individuals are limited to 48 months of combined benefits under educational assistance programs administered by VA.
  • NOTE: Individuals transferring to the Post-9/11 GI Bill from the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) will be limited to the amount of remaining Chapter 30 entitlement.
Benefit Includes
  • Tuition and Fees (All state schools in-state tuition & required fees covered. Parking and ID Card excluded.)
  • Books - $1000 a year ($41.67 per credit hour certified)
  • MHA of an E-5 with dependents (regardless if you have dependent) based on your SCC Zip Code. Must be enrolled more than 1/2 time to receive percentage of MHA. No MHA for enrollment that is less than half-time.
  • Kickers are paid monthly
Class Format:
  • In-resident Only: Full MHA based on pursuit rate
  • In-Resident, Online and/or Hybrid Combination: FULL MHA based on pursuit rate
  • Online and/or Hybrid only: $714.50 (amount will decrease based on pursuit rate)

Chapter 33   Post 9/11 for Dependents

General Eligibility
  • Active-duty Service-member or Veteran (prior to separating from the military) transferred entitlement of their benefit to dependent
Delimiting Date
  • Spouses may use benefit up to 15 years after service member last date of separation
  • Children may use until age 26
Entitlement:
  • Subject to amount of months transfer to spouse/dependent
Benefit Includes
  • Tuition and Fees (All state schools in-state tuition & required fees covered. Parking and ID Card excluded.)
  • Books - $1000 a year ($41.67 per credit hour certified)
  • MHA of an E-5 with dependents (regardless if you have dependent) based on your SCC Zip Code. Must be enrolled more than 1/2 time to receive percentage of MHA. No MHA for enrollment that is less than half-time.
    • Spouses
      • Active-duty Spouses do not receive MHA
      • Veteran Spouses do receive MHA
    • Dependent Children of Active-duty or Veteran receive MHA

Chapter 33   Post 9/11 Veteran Education Marine Gunnery Sgt. John Fry Scholarship

Eligibility
  • Children of an active-duty member of the Armed Forces who has died in the line of duty on or after September 11, 2001, are eligible for this benefit. A child may be married or over 23 and still be eligible.
Entitlement
  • 36 months of benefits at the 100% level
  • May use the benefit until his or her 33rd birthday
Benefit Includes

  • Books - $1000 a year ($41.67 per credit hour certified)

Chapter 35   Dependents' Educational Assistance Program

Eligibility
  • Available to the spouse, surviving spouse, or dependent child of veteran who:
    • Is 100% permanently disabled as a result of a service connected disability
    • Died while rated as a 100% permanently and totally disabled as a result of a service connected injury
Entitlement
  • 45 months of full-time benefits
Delimiting Date
  • Spouse: 10 years or 20 years if Veterans death was while on active duty
  • Child: 8 years from eligibility date

Chapter 1606   Selective Reserve Benefit

Eligibility
  • Have six years obligation to serve in the Selected reserve signed after 06/30/85. (Officer's must have agreed to serve 6 additional years in order to qualify.)
  • Received a High School diploma or equivalency certificate. Completing 12 hours toward a college degree before you apply for benefits also meets this requirement.
  • Complete your IADT (Initial Active Duty for Training).
  • Remain in good standing with reserve unit
Entitlement
  • Up to 36 months of full-time benefits
Delimiting Date
  • 14 years from eligibility date or date of separation if leave reserves before 14 years. May be extended for disability incurred or aggravated by service in the reserves, which prevents completion of program.

Chapter 1607   Reserve Education Assistance Program

Eligibility
  • Guard/Reservists who served 90 continuous days or more on active duty after September 11, 2001 for a contingency operation as determined by the President or Congress.
Entitlement
  • Up to 36 months of full-time benefits
Delimiting Date
  • 10 years from the separation date if separated after completing service contract and discharge is not dishonorable.
  • 10 years from Chapter 1607 eligibility date if separation for disability.

DOD Tuition Assistance

Veteran student using a VA Education Benefit and is actively drilling in a Reserve unit are entitled to DOD Tuition Assistance through their unit in addition to the GI Bill.
