ASSESSMENT TESTING EXEMPTION

You are exempt from the Assessment Requirement if you meet at least one of these requirements:

  • You have earned a college degree.
      
  • You can produce satisfactory test scores from one of the following tests (to waive English assessment):
    • SAT verbal score of at least 500
    • College Entrance English Composition (ECT) of at least 600
    • CSU English Placement Test (EPT) of at least 153
    • ACT score of 23
    • English Advanced Placement (AP) with a score of 3, 4, or 5
    • University's Subject A exam with satisfactory performance
       
  • You have met a high school articulation agreement with Solano Community College at one of the local high schools.  See the High School Waiver Program information below.

Important:  In order to meet prerequisite requirements for most English and ESL courses, you must meet with a counselor to have your prior course work from other colleges, the above test scores, or your high school waiver entered on your records.
 

High School Waiver Program

The Solano Community College English Department has a waiver program with many of the high schools in the county.  A waiver  allows a student to bypass the Solano Community College English Assessment Test and register directly for English 1.  To qualify for a waiver, a student must meet the grade and year requirements for a course listed in the table below.

World Literature-Grade of C or better

British Lit/College Writing-Grade of C or  better

Literature 4P or Literature 4 HP-Grade of C or better

DIXON HIGH SCHOOL (1995*)

Honors Composition-Grade of B or better

Honors Literature-Grade of C or better

VACAVILLE HIGH SCHOOL (1992*)

GATE English 12-Grade of C or better

VALLEJO HIGH SCHOOL (1990*)

Junior Honors English-Grade of C or better

VANDEN HIGH SCHOOL (1996*)

Adv. Placement English (Engl.4AP)-Grade of C or better

WILL C. WOOD HIGH SCHOOL (1997*)

AP Literature and Composition-Grade of C or better

English 12P-Grade of A only
