Solano Community College VIP Orientation

Step 3 - Complete Assessment

English Assessment

Take the English assessment tests to find out your reading and writing skill levels.  The scores help determine what level of English class is just right for you and whether you need a reading class to graduate.

For a description of the English tests, click here.

You WILL need these assessments if you:

  • Plan to take an English class

  • Plan to get a 2-year degree from Solano College

  • Plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university after Solano

  • Aren't sure of your major and want to start General Education

You may be exempt if you have taken another English test or class. Click here if you think you may be exempt from English assessment.

The tests are self-paced (not timed). Allow an hour or more to do your best.

English assessment must be completed in person:

  • The Assessment Center is located in Room 1635 (outside the entrance of the 1600 Building on the main Suisun Valley Campus).

  • For testing times and information and testing at off-campus centers, call (707) 864-7118.

Math Assessment

Incoming students are now required to take the Math Assessment tests for advisement purposes unless the student has taken a college Math class.

To choose the best level of math for you, see a counselor or math advisor.  Bring your high school (or college) transcript or any other assessment test documentation.

For more information and schedules, contact the Assessment Center.

What about Parking?Meter Tickets

Paid parking is strictly enforced at the main Suisun Valley Campus and Vacaville Center.  You may purchase a semester Parking Permit which is valid at both sites for the entire semester.   Daily parking permits may also be purchased from dispensers located in the parking lots.  You must have four quarters for these machines.

Parking at all South County locations is free; however, students attending classes at the Vallejo Center should be aware that there is a 3-hour limit for parking in the library lot, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and should observe the posted restricted areas at all times.

Please see details about the Gate Pass and Parking at Travis Air Force Base.  More information is included in the Schedule of Classes on the page titled: Off Campus Classes – North.

For parking information at other off-campus centers, contact the Office of Admissions and Records.

How will I find the right building?

For the main Suisun Valley Campus, use a Campus Map.  You can also find a map inside the back cover of the Schedule of Classes or pick up a copy on the main Suisun Valley Campus:

  • At the Switchboard in Building 600 (by the flag pole)

  • In Counseling in Building 100

For other sites, contact the Office of Admissions and Records or the site.  See off-campus centers.
