CATALOG DESCRIPTION AND OTHER CATALOG INFORMATION
9a. Catalog Description:
Provides practice on recorded material stressing terminology from medical reports covering emergency services admission reports, history and physicals, radiology, operations, pathology, discharge summary, outpatient medical reports, death summary, and autopsy using a microcomputer and word processing software.

10. Student Performance Objectives:
As a result of successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:

1. Demonstrate a marketable competence in the use of a transcribing machine to produce accurate medical reports and records.
2. Correctly define, pronounce, and spell a broad range of medical terms, drugs, and instruments, as well as acceptable initials and abbreviations.
3. Identify and locate parts of the body.
   
11. Methods of Evaluating Student Achievement:
1. Daily transcribed reports judged for accuracy and proofreading skills.
2. Vocabulary tests to measure spelling and knowledge of definitions.
3. Production line count, measuring speed and correctness.
4. Objective tests identifying parts of the body.

13. Course Content Outline:
Pronunciation, vocabulary, definitions, and drawings are studied to focus on patient case studies. Dictation relating to assigned cases is then transcribed. Each case has from three to five reports that originate from the treatment of the patient as he or she moves from one stage of treatment to another up to the final discharge from the hospital. Students will be required to analyze and evaluate critically the dictated materials and apply this knowledge to entering the information accurately and correctly.
