REGISTRATION ISSUES AND ERROR MESSAGES

This FAQ is designed to help with basic registration issues and registration error messages that students may receive while trying to register within My Solano.

REGISTRATION ISSUES AND ERROR MESSAGES

If you are having problems registering for classes, you should check your registration status. To do so...

  1. Select the Student tab, then ...
  2. Click on Priority Registration Status and ...
  3. Select the appropriate term.

Check this page to ensure you have both A) the proper priority registration date and time and B) that you have no other holds or status problems preventing registration.

Assuming your status and priority registration ticket allow you to register, there are a number of other error conditions that prevent a student from attempting to register. Although there can be multiple reasons that a student cannot register, only the first error that prevents registration is displayed for a student at any time. In other words, a student could be prevented from registering for one error that is resolved by administrative action, only to be denied registration for another error later.

Issues or Errors (listed in alphabetic order) that prevent registration activity:

  1. Error Message: Approval Required - This message indicates that approval from a Division Dean or faculty member is needed to allow registration. An example would be courses that are part of the formal nursing program.
Action: Review the course description in the course catalog or schedule to determine who must grant the approval.
  2. Error Message: CENSUS DATE PROHIBITS REG - This error message will follow after cancelling the screen for INCOMPLETE issues when the census date is past. The census date is the last day to add without a petition.
Action: You must use a petition to add a class late. This petition must be signed by your instructor and the instructor and Division Dean, and the instructor must indicate that you have been attending prior to the census date.
  3. Error Message: CLOSED SECTION – AUTH REQD - This course is full.
Action: The student must obtain an “Add Code” from the teacher to proceed. Once an add code is obtained, the student should enter the Course Reference Number (CRN), and when prompted to “Validate”, enter the add code and click the “validate” button. The student must then reenter the CRN and click submit to finish registering for the course.
  4. Error Message: CORQ_COURSE REQ - This course requires a corequisite course. An example would be a learning community that is comprised of three courses. The Course Reference Number (CRN) of all three courses must be entered simultaneously to avoid this error.
Action: Enter the course CRN and all corequisite CRN’s simultaneously to register.
  5. Error Message: DUPLICATE CRN OR RPTS - You are already registered for this course.
Action: If you are trying to take the same course with a different instructor or at a different time, you must drop the original course first.
  6. INCOMPLETE with buttons to "Validate" or "Cancel." - This issue means that you cannot register for the CRN without an Add Code. If the instructor still has room in the class, you may get an Add Code from the instructor.
Action: If you have a valid Add Code, please enter it and press the “Validate” button. If the system will not allow you to enter the add code, then look to the last column of the error message—if it says “Section Census Date Past - Authorization Not Allowed” then you must use a petition to add a class late. This petition must be signed by your instructor and the Division Dean, and the instructor must indicate that you have been attending prior to the census date.
  7. Error Message: Maximum Hours Exceeded - You are attempting to register for more hours than your status allows.
Action: Drop one or more classes or see your counselor to request an increase for your maximum load.
  8. Error Message: PREQ and TEST SCORE-ERROR - This course requires a prerequisite or placement test before registering.
Action: Review the course description in the course catalog or schedule to determine the appropriate placement test or prerequisite. If you have completed the prerequisite course or test, bring the transcripts (unofficial or official) to your counselor to have the prerequisite or test cleared.
  9. Error Message: REPEAT COUNT EXCEEDS X - You are attempting to repeat a non repeatable course, or to repeat a repeatable course more than the maximum number of times allowed.
Action: See a counselor to review the possibility of petitioning for repeat through the Admissions and Records office.
  10. Error Message: SUBSTD GRADE RPT EXCEED X - You are trying to repeat a class in which he or she received a substandard grade (D, F or NP) more than 2 times.
Action: Check with a counselor, the Admissions and Records office, or the Division Dean to see what options are available.
  11. Error Message: TIME CONFLICT WITH CRN - The course you are trying to register for is offered at the same time as another course already on your schedule.
Action: Rearrange your schedule to accommodate courses that do not overlap times, or see your counselor if you want to petition to resolve time conflicts between courses. These petitions will need to be signed by your instructors and require an explanation of how the missed time will be made up. The petition must also be approved by the Dean.
  12. Error Message: WITHDRAWAL GRADE EXCEEDS X - You are attempting to retake a class in which you received a W more than 3 times.
Action: Check with a counselor, the Admissions and Records office, or the Division Dean to see what options are available.
