Fall 2016 Elections

Your Student Government Needs You!

The position of Legislative Advocate will be on the ballot this September. As a member of the Executive Board, a student must be enrolled on at least 5 units of coursework at SCC. Although this is a ‘non’- voting position, it is a very important position as you would report on federal and state legislative affairs affecting students; represent SCC at nation, statewide, and regional student meeting; and serve as the Chairperson of the Political Activities Committee. You may pick up your Candidate Packet in the Student Life Office, Building 1400.

A Transportation Fee will also be on the ballot. This fee which will be based upon the number of units a student is taking per semester, will allow SCC students to receive a 50% discount on the price of public transportation to and from our campuses in Fairfield, Vallejo and Vacaville. Information about this measure will be placed throughout the campus (check out those bulletin boards!) as well as in the Student Life Office.

One last important note: The Associated Students of Solano College (ASSC) is the official government of the student body of Solano Community College. The ASSC has a large annual budget, and with this budget, supports and provides many of the programs, activities and services available to SCC students. The ASSC also acts as the voice of the students, representing them on campus committees and at regional and statewide meetings of the state’s association of community college student government.

If you are interested in serving, or just want more information about your student government, please plan to attend the first meeting of the ASSC on Tuesday, August 16th in the 1400 building “fishbowl” from 12:30-2:20 pm – stay as long as you can. If you are also interested in learning about “how” government works, parliamentary procedure, the importance of “notice”, check out the one unit Poli Sci 050 (CRN 81178) as it is held during the weekly ASSC meetings!

For the answers to your questions, please contact our office at 707-864-7168. Again, welcome to SCC!
