Solano Community College is proud to announce that four students, Alexander Underwood, Jumari Dotson, Marcus Dukes, and Darryl Johnson—have each been awarded a $25,000 scholarship as part of their acceptance into John Hope Bryant’s 1 Million Black Businesses (1MBB) program.
The scholarships are part of a competitive and prestigious national initiative that equips students with the tools needed to thrive as entrepreneurs. Award recipients will receive access to business development support, financial literacy coaching, credit-building strategies, entrepreneurial resources, and mentorship from Operation HOPE advisors.
These students are active members of Solano’s A²MEND and S.O.A.R. (Students Overcoming Adversity & Recidivism) programs, which provide critical support and guidance for system-impacted and underrepresented students.
“This is a significant achievement not only for these students but for our entire
college community,” said Shanan Danley, A²MEND Advisor. “Seeing them overcome adversity
and earn such a transformative opportunity is a reminder of the impact our programs
can have.”
The 1MBB program, founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist John Hope Bryant, aims
to create one million Black-owned businesses by providing aspiring entrepreneurs with
the tools and resources to succeed.
Solano Community College congratulates these students and celebrates their continued
pursuit of excellence and leadership.
