Solano Community College Land Acknowledgment

Solano Community College formally recognizes the original Tribal Nations of the land on which our campuses are located. With deep respect and gratitude, we honor the Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land for generations and continue to do so today.

Following consultation with local Tribal members and elders, Solano Community College offers the following land acknowledgment statements for use in both oral and written communications, where appropriate. These statements are intended to pay homage to Tribal Nations and affirm our ongoing commitment to recognizing their enduring relationship with the land.

Land Acknowledgement Statement

We should take a moment to acknowledge the land on which we are gathered. For thousands of years, this land has been the home of Patwin people. Today, there are three federally recognized Patwin tribes: Cachil DeHe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community, Kletsel Dehe Band of Wintun Indians, and Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. The Patwin people have remained committed to the stewardship of this land over many centuries. It has been cherished and protected, as elders have instructed the young through generations. We are honored and grateful to be here today on their traditional lands.
Approved by Yocha Dehe Tribal Council (July 23, 2019)
